Privacy policy

Fablee is made for children and for the parents who put them to bed. We designed it to work without knowing who is listening. This page explains, in plain words, what data Fablee handles, why, and what rights you have.

Who we are

The data controller is Alberto Di Mauro, Via Cesario Minali, Italy (“Fablee”, “we”). For anything about your data, write to privacy@fablee.app.

Listening, without an account

You don’t need an account to listen. We don’t ask for names, email addresses or phone numbers.

The app creates a random code for each installation. Our servers keep only a one-way fingerprint of it, which does not identify a person. We use it to:

  • limit how many ads each device hears in an hour;
  • issue the licences that let downloaded stories play offline for 30 days;
  • count how often each story is listened to, so that we can share the ad revenue with its storyteller.

We don’t use your phone’s advertising ID, we don’t build profiles and there are no analytics or tracking tools in the app. Your language and the voice you prefer stay on your device.

If you create an account

An account is optional: it only keeps your favourite stories on every device. You can create it with an email address and password, or with Sign in with Apple, Google or Amazon.

We keep your email address, the name the sign-in service gives us, if any, and your favourites. You can delete the account from the app at any time: the account and the favourites are erased.

Ads

To keep listening free, some stories may be preceded by a short audio ad. Ads come from our own campaigns or from advertising networks, including Google Ad Manager.

Every request to a network is marked as directed to children and asks for non-personalised ads. To deliver the audio, the network receives technical data from your device, such as the IP address and the type of device, and handles it under its own privacy policy. We record which ads were played, with the fingerprint described above, to count them and to pay storytellers.

Downloads, the car, speakers and voice assistants

Downloaded stories stay on your device. CarPlay, Android Auto, AirPlay, Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa are provided by Apple, Google and Amazon under their own privacy policies.

The Fablee skill for Alexa plays no ads and asks for no personal data: it receives only the anonymous identifier of the Alexa device, which we keep as a one-way fingerprint, like the app’s code.

Storytellers

If you publish stories on Fablee, we keep what the storyteller agreement and the law require: name, contact details, tax code, address, date of birth, bank details for payments, the stories and recordings you upload, your earnings statements, and the record of the agreement you accepted, with its date, IP address and browser.

This website

fablee.app uses no cookies and no analytics, and serves its fonts itself. The hosting provider keeps technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

Where your data is kept

Fablee runs on Google Cloud and Firebase. The database is in the European Union (Frankfurt) and our servers in Belgium; story audio and images are stored in the United States. Sign-in is provided by Firebase and by the service you choose (Apple, Google, Amazon).

When data leaves the European Union, it is protected by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Legal bases

We handle data to provide the service you ask for (your account, downloads), for our legitimate interest in running Fablee safely and fairly (limiting ads, counting listens, preventing abuse), to perform the storyteller agreement and to meet our legal obligations, such as tax rules.

Fablee is for children, but accounts are for adults: we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. If you think a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

How long we keep it

Fingerprints and records of listens and ads: as long as they are needed to pay storytellers and to keep the statistics, then deleted or made anonymous. Accounts: until you delete them. Storytellers’ data: for the length of the agreement and then for as long as tax law requires, up to ten years.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. Write to privacy@fablee.app: we answer within one month.

You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or to the one where you live.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. We announce important changes in the app.
